Darryl Matthews
Director and Coach: U-17
Darryl (Camp D) is the founder, director and a coach in the Camp Darryl Basketball Academy (CDBA). Darryl played basketball at Kalamazoo Valley Community College for the legendary Dick Shilts. The program's foundation is based on fundamentals and stresses practice, character, and work ethic. His love for the game and desire to make the Kalamazoo area one of the dominant youth basketball hotbeds in the Midwest is the driving force behind the CDBA. Darryl has 19 years of coaching experience. Over the years he has been a Head or Assistant Coach at levels of basketball from Middle to High School. Darryl has coached both male & female's and has a reputation of getting the most out of everyone who has suited up for him.

Jason Ratering
U-16 Head Coach
Assistant Coach: U-15,U-17
Jason was part of the original Camp Darryl team that played in t-shirts and their own shorts. Jason returns this year as a coach bringing tradition, heart, and soul. He played at Three Rivers High School lettering in five different sports with basketball being his main sport. He then went on to play basketball for Kalamazoo College majoring in pre-med. Jason's asset to the program will be working with our post players. We're excited to have one of our own coming back to coach in the program. To quote Coach Ratering "To the big guys, play high and play strong." Jason Ratering is currently a student assistant for Western Michigan University's Women's Basketball team.

Jared Phillips
Program Advisor
Assistant Coach: U-17
Jared is basically the first "Graduate Asst" in the CDBA. Jared is 1 of 3 remaining "original" Camp Darryl players(David Cultra, Shawn Earl). Jared has a very good knowledge of the game, and is currently serving as a Student Assistant Coach at Gull Lake HS. If Jared coaches with the same work ethic that he played with, he'll eventually be an outstanding coach we're proud of Jared's decision to remain as part of this program.

Kevin White
Program Consultant
Kevin, a co-founder of the program, has served as the Assistant Director as well as a coach for multiple teams. In addition to Camp Darryl Kevin was also a member of the coaching staff at Albion College. Our Camp Darryl Memorial Tournament was created and named for the first 2 years in honor of his late father, Damon L. White. Kevin, being a part of the College coaching fraternity, serves as a liaison for us in dealing with some recruitment issues regarding players in the program. Kevin is currently an assistant basketball coach for Glen Oaks Community College.
